The 92nd Academy Awards- The Oscars- Best Actress

With the annual Academy Awards coming up in the very near future, we take a look back at various categories for the films of the past year. There are a variety of different categories that sees awards being given. We’ve already gone through the nominations for Best Picture and Best Actor, so now we of course move onto the nominations for Best Actress.

First on the list of nominations is Cynthia Erivo for her role as the titular Harriet Tubman in Harriet. Harriet Tubman escapes from a Maryland plantation and transforms into one of America’s most renowned freedom fighters. Erivo’s performance has landed her as one of the few actresses nominated for a Best Actress award.

Next on the list of nominations, we have Scarlett Johansson for her role in the movie Marriage Story. She plays one half of a married couple going through a coastal separation and an impending divorce. Her performance shows us what a real life situation involving divorce could actually look like. The powerful performance she gives puts her on the list of nominees for sure.

The next nominee for Best Actress is Saoirse Ronan for her role in the newest adaptation of Little Women. Ronan plays the main character Jo March a burgeoning author looking back on her and her three sisters’ Massachusetts childhoods. Her performance, of course managed to earn her a place on the nominations list.

Another Best Actress nominee is Charlize Theron, for her role in the movie Bombshell. Bombshell sees three women take on the controversial media empire Fox News and face off against the powerful man who created it. Theron’s performance as Fox News correspondent Megyn Kelly was powerful, and obviously that was noticed because she earned a nomination.

The final Best Actress nominee to grace the list is Renée Zellweger for her role in the movie Judy. Judy sees showbiz legend Judy Garland arriving in London to perform a five-week sold-out run of shows. As she prepares her act, fights with management, charms musicians and reminisces with friends and fans, her wit and warmth shine through. Zellweger’s performance shines through just as well as her character’s does.
