Sony Pictures’ Greyhound

There are plenty of movies that tell stories about WWII and the incredible tales of heroism that people had lived through. Over time, more and more stories are uncovered about the events that transpired during WWII. Among those events are stories about both groups and individuals who managed to accomplish or at least tried to accomplish astounding feats. Whether those feats be ones that proved that they could do something others didn’t think they could, or they went above and beyond is what those films were all about. Now, we are going to be getting a movie that explores the former and shows us a mission many thought could fail.

This upcoming film, ‘Greyhound,’ tells a story about a first-time captain leading a convoy of Allied ships across the Atlantic. The goal of the Allies in this crossing is to survive the waters of the “Black Pit.” This area was a place outside of the range of antisubmarine aircraft in the mid-Atlantic gap. So, for the entire journey across the Atlantic, he and his passengers had to brave waters full of Nazi U-boats to reach their target. Without any air cover for 5 days while out in the Atlantic, they must battle what they cannot see and avoid an enemy that will never stop.

From a screenplay by and starring Tom Hanks, ‘Greyhound’ also stars Stephen Graham, Rob Morgan, and Elisabeth Shue. The movie is being directed by Aaron Schneider and produced by Gary Goetzman. Tom Hanks’ screenplay is based off of the novel “The Good Sheperd” by C.S. Forester. This movie will tell a story we have not yet seen on the big screen and tells us a story about courage in the face of death. ‘Greyhound’ will release theatrically on June 12th, 2020.
