Marvel's Living Vampire, Morbius

Morbius Featured Image

The Morbius trailer has recently dropped and shows us the origins of titular biochemist Michael Morbius, played by Jared Leto. For those who do not know, Morbius is a vampire in the marvel universe who clashes with Spider-Man. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease. This premise makes us hopeful that the movie will turn out as well as other Marvel films.

Sony’s Teaser Trailer for Morbius

The film is being directed by Daniel Espinosa, the director behind films like Safe House and Life(2017). The story was written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless who wrote the stories for Dracula Untold, The Last Witch Hunter, and Gods of Egypt. This might give pause for some people considering how poorly critics rated those films, but I have hope for it. We can’t judge a movie until we’ve seen it, and a Marvel film usually always ends up coming out alright in the end. Morbius seems like it will be an interesting movie that could expand even more upon Sony’s Marvel Universe.

With this film, we have the set up to a fantastic series of movies, if done correctly. Sony’s Marvel Universe is expanding it’s repertoire in order to build a catalog of interesting, yet classic villains. The villains, or really anti-heroes, are people who are classic Spidey villains, such as Venom and now Morbius. It may just be the beginning of this universe, but could also be very promising. Hopefully it all ends up working out in the end, and we can see the direction this universe is going in when the film releases in theaters on July 31, 2020.
