Jamie Foxx Still to Star in Spawn Remake

Spawn is an Image Comics character that became relatively popular after his inception in the 90’s. So popular in fact, that he got his own movie with Michael Jai White starring as the titular character. The story of the character was interesting enough to make the film possible, but like most films of the time that featured comic book heroes, it didn’t do very well critically. Now, the character’s creator, Todd McFarlane, wants to remake the movie to give the character to some and a better movie. Based off of the title of this post, I think we all now know that Jamie Foxx is meant to play the character in this new planned remake.

A Spawn remake or reboot has been discussed for well over a decade at this point, but starting in 2017, plans for it gained traction. Jason Blum came onto the project announcing that McFarlane would be the writer and director of the film. Within the next year, Jamie Foxx joined the cast as the main lead of the film. Foxx has already stated in 2013 that he would want to play the role of the titular character should there be any kind of remake, reboot or sequel for the film. There had recently been rumors that Foxx was no longer on the film after McFarlane said that an “academy award-winning guy” was no longer on the film.

However, it turns out that the person that Todd McFarlane was talking about that had left the project was a writer working on the film. The writer is someone that hasn’t been mentioned by name thus far as McFarlane is the only known writer for the movie. McFarlane has been keeping fans in the loop regarding the movie for years by using social media with the most recent update for the film being that the film is set to be rated R. This is not the only thing known about the film.

Blumhouse Productions is giving the film a smaller budget which means the film will have to work with what it has. While the story of the film is not known at this time, we do know that it will not be an origin story. What is also known about the movie is that Jeremy Renner may play the character of Detective Twitch Williams, a tertiary character in the series. Spawn still has no release date in sight, but development will continue throughout this year and hopefully news for it will soon follow.
