Disney’s ‘Jungle Cruise’

I think at this point, we know that Disney can make a movie based off of any of their properties, or in this case, rides. ‘Jungle Cruise’ is a movie that is based off of the ride of the same name in the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. Other movies that are based off rides in the park are ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ ‘Tower of Terror,’ ‘Tomorrowland,’ etc. Some of these movies ended up being worth the production fees because they brought in a lot of money and were received pretty well.

This upcoming movie, ‘Jungle Cruise,’ is a film that sees the main characters having to face off against dangerous animals and supernatural beings. While all of the other ride films, save ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ haven’t been able to spawn a series. The story for the film follows Frank and Lily Houghton, a riverboat captain and scientist who journey together to find a mystical tree with healing powers located deep in the Amazon. The biggest part of the journey is the danger that comes with seeking a mystical power the world has never known.

With a supernatural villain, there is a lot of fun to be had in the film especially with humor that is no stranger to Disney films. ‘Jungle Cruise’ is set to be a much more simple type of film with writers Michael Green (The Call of the Wild) and Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Focus) creating a simple MacGuffin styled like an Indiana Jones artifact. The movie stars Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Edgar Ramirez, Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti. The movie is being directed by Jaume Collet-Serra with a release date currently set for July 24, 2020.
