For anyone who hasn’t yet seen Bad Boys for Life, this review will be filled with massive spoilers for the movie.
I very recently went to see the new Bad Boys for Life film and I can say for sure that it’s a fun movie that is almost on par with the first two movies. There may be a bit of bias on my part because I grew up with the first two films and liked them just that little bit more. It is exactly what you would expect from a Bad Boys film where it is just full of over-the-top action. In between the ridiculous action sequences, which I love because the film knows what it is, there is plenty of humor. It doesn’t feel like forced humor either, it is natural and genuinely funny to hear when it does happen.
While I may have enjoyed the movie for the humor, I thought that the action scenes were just a little too over-the-top with all of the explosions. There are explosions littered throughout the film, making every action scene seem like a war zone. Everything that gets shot seems like it explodes, and I have nothing against that in movies, because I know explosions sell seats, but it just feels like too much. Seriously though, the humor in the film is spot on especially between Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. I can usually guess how plots are going to go in films, and it may have just been because I was enjoying the film, but I was certainly not expecting the antagonist to be the son of a main character.
Smith and Lawrence performed incredibly, the cinematography is very well done, and the supporting cast is all fantastic. I wasn’t expecting myself to enjoy the film as much as I did because sequels made so much later after the previous film usually are nowhere near as good as the older ones. The scene at the end of the film with Mike Lowry (Will Smith) and his son that suggests perhaps that there could be a new film or a spin-off of some kind. Even if there isn’t, the film ends, at least for me, in a very satisfying way where I’d be happy with this truly being the last of the Bad Boy films. If you read this without watching the movie, then you missed out on a couple of surprises, but go watch it anyway because it is definitely worth the price of admission.

From Director and Writer William Nicholson comes a new family drama center around an older couple and their adult son. Nicholson is known for his work as a writer for Shadowlands and The Retreat From Moscow, as well as films such as Nell and Gladiator. He directed and wrote for the film Firelight and he adapted the beloved Les Misérables as a film. Hope Gap is also being produced by David M. Thompson,the founding head of BBC Films, and Sarada McDermott, an executive producer for the film Sometimes Always Never. It is also being executively produced by Hugo Heppell , Nicolas D. Sampson, Arno Hazebroek, Gavin Poolman, Alex Tate, Peter Gould, Norman Merry and Peter Hampde.
Hope Gap stars Annette Bening, Bill Nighy, and Josh O’Connor as an older married couple and their son respectively. The film focuses mainly on the relationship of the couple and its affects on their only son. After 29 years of marriage, a man decides that he wants to put an end to his relationship. This comes as an obvious shock to the man’s son when his father tells him of his plan to leave his mother. The impact on him causes an intense emotional fallout that their son must contend with. Meanwhile, unraveled and feeling displaced in her small seaside town, Grace ultimately regains her footing and discovers a new, powerful voice. The film will release for US audiences on March 6, 2020 and for UK audiences on 12 June, 2020.
With the Academy Awards, the Oscars, just a few weeks away, we can step back and take a look at the award categories. We have already taken a look at the category nominees for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Now we will be taking a look at the nominations for the Best Actress in a Supporting Role award.
At the top of the list for Best Supporting Actress nominees, we have Kathy Bates for her role as Bobi Jewell in the movie Richard Jewell. The movie being about Richard Jewell, the security guard suspected of bombing the 1996 Summer Olympics. Bates gave a performance as a caring mother throughout the film, and it comes across very well. If it didn’t come across that well, then she wouldn’t have been chosen for this nomination to begin with.
Going down the list, we have Laura Dern for her role as family lawyer Nora Fanshaw in Marriage Story. The movie shows us a couple pushed to their extremes during a divorce. Dern plays one of the crucial characters that mediates the divorce proceedings and does an incredible job being a lawyer. Her nomination just shows another reason why this film is so highly praised.
An actress that was nominated for Best Actress made it to this nomination as well. Scarlett Johansson was nominated for her role as a single German mother in the film Jojo Rabbit. As a supporting actress she plays a very important role in the film, and she performs it very well. Obviously that gives her plenty of reason to be on this nominations list as well.
Following that nomination, we have Florence Pugh who played the role of Amy March in the newest adaptation of the film Little Women. Little Women is about four sisters’ Massachusetts childhoods and the events and relationships that helped shape them as adults. She portrays the character as being jealous of her sister,the main character, and her emotion as such is what gives her this nomination.
The final actress to be nominated for the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role is Margot Robbie for her role as Kayla Pospisil in Bombshell. The movie sees three women take on the controversial media empire Fox News and face off against the powerful man who created it. She plays as one of the key characters of the film and as such delivers a performance to match up to her role.

Sometimes just as important as the leading role is the supporting role, and we are going over the nominees for Best Supporting Actor.
The first actor on the list of nominees is Tom Hanks for his role as Mister Rogers in the movie A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood sees a jaded magazine writer assigned to profile Mister Rogers and coming out of their meeting with a new view of his life. Tom Hanks might be considered a supporting actor for the film, but he is just as important as the main actor.
Next up on the list of nominees for supporting actor is Anthony Hopkins for playing Pope Benedict in The Two Popes. Hopkins delivers an excellent performance and gives us a sense of the nature of the character he plays. For those unaware, The Two Popes sees the introspective Pope Benedict and his harshest critic, Cardinal Bergoglio, engage in a deep, revelatory discussion about the state of the Catholic Church and their future as its leaders.
Next on the list we actually have two nominees for Best Supporting Actor from the same movie. The nominees are Al Pacino and Joe Pesci for their respective roles in the movie, The Irishman. They play Jimmy Hoffa and Russell Bufalino respectively and deliver on their roles as powerful figures of the mob. Due to their lauded performances, they managed to both make it onto the list of nominees for Best Supporting Actor.
Finally, also nominated for the award for Best Supporting Actor is Brad Pitt for his performance in Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood. Pitt plays the role of Cliff Booth, the stunt double for a TV actor during the Golden Age of Hollywood. His performance made him just as important to the film as co-star Leonardo DiCaprio and allowed him to be put on the list of nominees for Best Supporting Actor.

She plays one half of a married couple going through a coastal separation and an impending divorce. Her performance shows us what a real life situation involving divorce could actually look like. The powerful performance she gives puts her on the list of nominees for sure.
The next nominee for Best Actress is Saoirse Ronan for her role in the newest adaptation of Little Women. Ronan plays the main character Jo March a burgeoning author looking back on her and her three sisters’ Massachusetts childhoods. Her performance, of course managed to earn her a place on the nominations list.
Another Best Actress nominee is Charlize Theron, for her role in the movie Bombshell. Bombshell sees three women take on the controversial media empire Fox News and face off against the powerful man who created it. Theron’s performance as Fox News correspondent Megyn Kelly was powerful, and obviously that was noticed because she earned a nomination.
The final Best Actress nominee to grace the list is Renée Zellweger for her role in the movie Judy. Judy sees showbiz legend Judy Garland arriving in London to perform a five-week sold-out run of shows. As she prepares her act, fights with management, charms musicians and reminisces with friends and fans, her wit and warmth shine through. Zellweger’s performance shines through just as well as her character’s does.

Banderas plays Salvador Mallo, a renowned film director in physical decline who decides to revisit his past. The result of which is a performance that managed to captivate the audience, putting him on this list.
Next up on the list of nominees, we have Leonardo DiCaprio for his role in Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood. DiCaprio plays aging TV star Rick Dalton struggling to make his way around an industry and a city he hardly recognizes anymore. In the end, we get a TV star who just wants to be in the limelight and it is a great performance for DiCaprio.
Another actor who gave an Oscar worthy performance was Adam Driver for his role in Marriage Story. In Marriage Story, Driver plays one half of a couple who, with their son, must navigate their impending divorce. His performance as a man who is simply going through a divorce shows us what life can be like and reminds us of human nature. This performance makes it all just feel real, and that is what lands him on the list of nominees.
One of the most well-received performances of the year comes from the next nominee, Joaquin Phoenix, for his performance as the titular Joker. Joker sees Phoenix’s character trying to navigate Gotham’s society to try and become a stand-up comic. The result of which leads him down a road of increasingly bad decisions. Joaquin Phoenix gives an incredible performance that was lauded by audience and critics alike and puts him on this list.
The final nominee on this list for Best Actor is Jonathan Pryce for his role in The Two Popes. Pryce’s role in the film is that of Cardinal Bergoglio, who would go on to become Pope Francis after Pope Benedict retires from his papacy. They engage in a deep, revelatory discussion about the state of the Catholic Church and their future as its leaders. The resulting performance obviously putting Pryce on the list of nominees.
