The Marvel Cinematic Universe, more commonly referred to as the MCU, is home to various characters from the Marvel Comics that many people grew up with. If not for those comics, many people would not have an outlet for the things they love and it is without a doubt responsible for generations of people now loving the superhero genre. Superheroes have existed outside of comic books, but their success as a whole genre can be boiled down to the success of the comics. Most specifically, superheroes draw their success in media from the DC and Marvel comics and they have continued to do so even today with comics being renewed on a regular basis. Unlike those comics though, the MCU has a set storyline and it isn’t being retconned as time goes on.
Very much unlike the comics they are based upon, the MCU films are in it for the long haul because the already established universe can’t necessarily just hit a reset button. In the context of the story, it is very much possible for them to do so with help from McGuffins such as the infinity stones, or something like them. Something, in universe, that could completely reshape the universe that we have seen thus far on screen is what it would take to “retcon” the MCU as a whole. Comic books, being an entirely different medium, can just suddenly decide to hit the reset button whenever they feel that the storylines are getting stale. With this in mind, we can kind of rejoice in the fact that what we get to see on screen will always have its own place and that they won’t just decide to begin anew.
Before the MCU was officially established, superhero movies did nothing but hit the reset button because of the various people making the films. For the longest time, numerous titles were given to different studios who went off and made their own versions of different characters from the Marvel Comics. What followed was a generation of movies featuring various characters from the comics and the films were not regarded very well for the most part. Some of the films ended up being popular with fans, but the vast majority of them left a lot to be desired from the populace. As such, when ‘Iron Man‘ first released in 2008, a new generation of superhero movies began and most of the MCU films that followed were popular among fans.
With the start of the MCU, we saw a vast resurgence in older, but popular characters making their return to the big screen in some way which built up the first phase of the MCU. Without the first phase of the MCU, the future films that we would end up getting for the shared universe would not have been successful. After they proved that there could, in fact, be a shared superhero universe and that it could be well-received by the general public, they started bringing in more characters from the comics that many casual fans didn’t know about. The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ ‘Black Panther,’ ‘Ant-Man,’ and ‘Doctor Strange’ are among that group and, despite not being known by many casual fans, they have been accepted by fans into the MCU because of how well done the characters are. This wouldn’t have even been possible if it weren’t for the first phase paving the way and giving an opportunity for the characters to shine.
Now that the Infinity Saga has ended there are characters which are no longer a part of the MCU- but now that we have seen how other characters that aren’t as well known can be adapted, many new characters have the opportunity to be a part of the MCU. When Marvel Studios announced their plans for their upcoming films moving forward, they announced the huge variety of characters that they have coming to the MCU, but those are not the only characters we will see. Eventually, many fan favorites will end up becoming a part of the MCU as well because slowly, but surely, Disney is managing to unify all Marvel properties under one umbrella. This is how we are now ending up with so many possible cross-over films being set to release over the course of the next few years with many characters now belonging in the same universe.
One of the most interesting parts of the MCU at this time is the fact that we already have an established shared universe where the most powerful heroes have managed to gather up on a number of occasions already. This means that they will now have to work it into the movies how exactly those character fit into everything; including where they have been, what they have been doing, why they didn’t get involved in things before, etc. I believe that, if these things can be explained well, then they can further add to the expanded universe and make it even better than it already was. I think that they need to figure stuff like this out if they ever want to properly integrate characters like the mutants into the MCU in the future, which is most definitely something that they will be trying to do in the not too distant future.
The most common way of dealing with this kind of scenario is actually the most common type of superhero movie there is which is the origin story. While Marvel Studios has already proven that they can weave origins into already existing and unfolding plots, they are just as good as making movies centered around how that hero became what they are now. Considering the fact that much of the upcoming MCU will feature new heroes, we will be seeing a few new origin stories unfold over the coming years. This isn’t really all that much of a surprise, but it is nice to know that we will be getting the opportunity to see how the stories of various characters unfold and how they became the new generation of heroes. Unfortunately, the entire schedule of the MCU has been consistently pushed back due to the pandemic, so it will still be awhile before we get to see the next saga in the MCU start to unfold before our eyes.
A couple of unfortunate events unfolded for the MCU when the pandemic first started which included ‘Black Widow’s’ theatrical release being pushed back and filming for the movie ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ being halted. After a few months, when things started looking like they were going back on track, the announcement was made that ‘Shang-Chi’ was going to be going back into production. This was a stroke of good luck because when they halted production, the movie had only really just begun and no real filming was done for the movie. While things were going well for the production end of the spectrum, the actual release end of things was far from okay because there was a massive surge in virus cases over the Summer which further delayed ‘Black Widow.’ Even after that passed, it was very quickly discovered that movie theaters are in a bad place right now and they can’t really bring customers in because people are afraid of going there and getting the virus.
Now that theaters are on a heavy decline as time rolls on, studios made the decision to further push back the releases of their films. This has inevitably ended up affecting the release of the next few MCU films as their plans were further pushed back more than they ever would have planned for originally. This gives them a lot more time to work on their upcoming films, but it also means that we will not be seeing the new MCU films for quite some time. Fortunately, even if we have to wait a lot longer to see new MCU films, we will know that there was a ton of time spent in post working to make sure the film turned out alright in the end for audiences. They will have a long time to work on ‘Shang-Chi’ as it has apparently finished filming now and, while the theatrical release may be a long time off, the movie will definitely be an interesting origin story that was worked on very hard.

There has been a lot going on in the world of DC at this moment in time and, given what we’ve learned over the past couple of months, this will not stop any time soon. Ever since the pandemic began we have been hearing about all kinds of DC news and about movies that are currently in the works in some way or another. Not too long after the start of the pandemic, Warner launched their premiere streaming service HBO Max which has been doing a solid job since its launch and with it they brought news of something fans have only really been dreaming of. That something would just so happen to be the long-awaited launch plans for the upcoming Snyder Director’s Cut for the ‘Justice League’ movie. Fans have been awaiting this version of the film for a long time now and we are finally getting the chance to see it be made.
The original ‘Justice League‘ movie was released back in 2017 and it was originally directed by Joss Whedon. While the movie managed to do well financially, it did not turn out as fans expected it to and the movie was not well-received on a critic-basis. Ever since the release of the film, fans have had the idea in their minds that this was not the version of the film that they were originally meant to end up with. With this idea in their minds, they decided to start petitioning Warner Bros. to release the true version of the film made by the original director for the film, Zack Snyder. Snyder was working on the film before he unfortunately had to step away from the director’s chair due to a tragic passing in his family.
Zack Snyder, as every fan knew, was the man behind the ‘Man of Steel‘ film which kicked off Warner’s DC Extended Universe, or DCEU. While this shared universe may not have been as financially successful as its Marvel predecessor thus far, it has still managed to bring in a fair bit of money as time has gone on. With that in mind, the films still fair pretty well at the box office and they manage to do pretty well critically. People have come to appreciate the “darker side” aspect of the DCEU since its inception, and fans have realized that Snyder can deliver it fairly well. This is why fans have been wanting to see his version of the film as they knew that if he was in charge of it, then it would have turned out very different from the film we got. Ever since the announcement that he would be putting his version of the film on HBO Max, fans have been excited for its release.
While the movie will be releasing on HBO Max, there are a lot of changes that we will apparently be seeing between the two versions of the story. Perhaps the biggest and most noticeable difference we have learned about is the fact that the film will actually be turned into a 4-part mini-series instead of a 4-hour film. This was something that was discussed during the all-online DC fan event, aptly named DC FanDome where the movie, as well as many other DC details, were discussed at length. Even after that fan event many more details about the impending director’s cut’s release have been made public. This has all served to make fans more and more excited about what seems to be an entirely new “film” for the DCEU.
Fans should absolutely not count on this being a DCEU film, however, because it has already been confirmed that whatever we end up witnessing on screen is not going to be canon. That being said, they seem to be pulling out all of the stops with more than just some special effects editing being done on the film. It turns out that even recently, Snyder has been doing reshoots for the film in order to create entirely new scenes that will be a part of the film. There are now things that will be a part of the film that no one would have ever expected there to be and it is growing into this thing that no DC fan would ever want to miss out on. Some of the more interesting content we have been finding out about is the fact that the film will be adding in characters that were missing from the original film.
We have recently found out that the film will actually include some scene, or scenes, that include the Joker from ‘Suicide Squad.’ That’s right, Jared Leto’s iteration of the Joker is set to make some kind of appearance in the upcoming Snyder Cut of ‘Justice League.’ The movie ‘Suicide Squad’ was not received well by anyone, but there has been a lot of information coming out that studio interference is the reason for why that movie ended up how it did. With the studio calling for apparently constant reshoots to make the film more appealing, not much of the original film was left by the end of filming. This news became public not long after the announcement of the Snyder Cut and the ‘Suicide Squad’ director David Ayer has put out his own petition for a director’s cut to release for his film.
While it is still not known if we will get to see a director’s cut of ‘Suicide Squad,’ especially with the spiritual sequel ‘The Suicide Squad‘ coming up, we will get to see the Joker on screen soon. It was officially confirmed that he will have his part to play in the upcoming Snyder cut and we will hopefully get to see more of what was promised when ‘Suicide Squad’ came out. When it first released, we heard all about Leto’s insane method acting, but his performance didn’t get a chance to shine on screen because most of his scenes were cut from the film. With his appearance in ‘Justice League’ perhaps Leto’s Joker will actually end up being one that fans fall in love with. All we have to do now is wait and see if this ends up becoming a reality when the movie releases some time early next year on HBO Max.

There are plenty of movies that are in the works at the moment that we have heard about within recent months that are stills a ways off from release. There is nothing much that we can really do about that fact because the pandemic just inherently makes things difficult for us to do anything at all. We can still find excitement in the fact that once there is some kind of vaccine and things can start going back to how they were, we will have a ton of new content available to us. At least now we have the opportunity to just start making a list that is getting longer and longer by the day in regards to the new content that we will have going into next year. Despite everything that is going on, there is always something to look forward to on the horizon.
Movie studios have been working hard to try and establish their timelines for upcoming projects, and for the most part, they have been pretty open about everything. This stems from the fact that the pandemic has made things quite complicated and we are not entirely sure of what the true dates and time windows are going to be. For instance, we don’t know exactly how long it will take to finish a lot of upcoming films, but we know that many of them have been delayed even further for some reason or another. This is because, other than the initial delay that we have seen due to the pandemic shutting down productions, there have been other delays related to the pandemic and other issues. One of the biggest reasons for many delays has been the fact that members of some crews have tested positive.
One recent production that was forced to shut down recently was the ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ production which was unfortunate considering how close they were to finishing. Even if there are delays though, it won’t really affect the productions all that much because these things are now being accounted for. There are already enough delays that it really doesn’t matter if anymore end up being tacked on because we are not even sure of when this pandemic will end. Without some kind of ending in sight, we don’t know just how long it will be before movies will have the opportunity to play in theaters again. With the failure of movie theaters over the past couple of months, studios have been deciding to postpone their theatrical releases for a long time.
Many films have had their release dates pushed back for upwards of months to even over a year and a half at this point in time. They have really only been doing this as an effort to create a timeframe where they could release their films if things work out for this pandemic. That being said, there is a lot going on at the moment and it will be awhile before we see any definitive dates come out in reference to new movie releases. Things are going much better on the digital side of things though as release dates are really just more of a formality on that front. Therefore, the digital side of movie releases is becoming more and more serious as time goes on and we will be seeing movies having to decide between what is a better launch platform.
Studios such as Disney are now putting more of an effort into their streaming platform and they will now be deciding on which films to release where. At least for the foreseeable future, during this pandemic, this is how things will be playing out and some of the smaller film titles will be available to the public much sooner than bigger titles. With some releases taking place on the digital platforms, it frees up space and creates less competition for release windows when things start to calm down a bit. This creates a better situation for everyone and makes it possible for studios to get things working as soon as possible. There are plenty of dates currently set for movies releases, but none of them are set in stone; hopefully now, there will be some wiggle room with the freed up space.
One studio that has been working hard to get their dates set up properly has been Warner Bros. who have been trying to make the best out of the hand they were dealt. They set the stage for everything we are seeing now after they had a bad release with their movie ‘Tenet’ where they haven’t made back the money they were hoping for. That doesn’t mean that the movie has been an absolute failure as it is still making some kind of money, just nowhere near as much as it would if there wasn’t a pandemic. Due to this, studios took this as a sign of something bad in the movie theater industry, and thus, the mass exodus of films took place from this year’s line-up. This was probably for the best in the long run as they all would have lost a lot of money with their film releases, so now the industry has been set on a new path.
Warner Bros. followed suit with the other companies and they decided to make things easier on themselves by also pushing back their other releases. Some of those releases were unfortunately pushed back far further than some originally thought they would be and now dates for release are scattered across a couple of years. Movies we were expecting to see this upcoming year have now been lost to 2022 because release dates had to be moved around. This isn’t inherently bad as it makes it so that there is plenty of time to make sure that the films turn out better, but it can be annoying for fans who have been waiting. Even though some films have been moved around due to this, there are others which have managed to maintain their original release dates.
On the list of films that have managed to do this is the movie ‘The Suicide Squad‘ which is still set to release in August of 2021. Even though this date is still obviously subject to change, there is still plenty of hype building for the film since we got some information about it from DC FanDome. Many fans have been skeptical about the movie’s release ever since they first heard about the spiritual sequel, but those thoughts are now moot. The film has many fans now excited which is a double-edged sword of sorts because now that they are excited, they will be expecting something spectacular from the film. The James Gunn directed film has already received a lot of coverage and Gunn has made it known that he has been in complete creative control, so hopes are high that the movie will end up delivering the experience fans are hoping for.
Gunn has already made it known to the public that he was given the opportunity to use whatever characters he wanted for the film, regardless of who they were. Hence, we have already seen that he has pulled out numerous characters that people don’t really know about and managed to make an interesting film about them. On top of this, we have just learned from Gunn that he also has complete control of what happens to said characters and DC doesn’t really have a say in the matter. He has said that whatever happens to those characters, DC cannot protect them and he was given carte blanche to do what he wanted for the sake of the film. That has made the upcoming anti-hero film even more exciting and it is no surprise that people can’t wait for the release.

This year has been an interesting one thus far, but mainly for all of the wrong reasons due to the pandemic we have all found ourselves trapped in. The pandemic is responsible for the shut down of countless businesses and has made it extremely difficult for those businesses to once again open their doors to the public. This has become something of a recurring issue throughout the past 8 months now and it will continue to be challenging as time rolls on. The truth of the matter is that, until the pandemic ends, businesses will not be able to return to their original functioning selves. There is no industry where this has become more clear than in the movie industry.
Whether it be movie theaters or just movie studios themselves coming up with ways of making money during this time, things are rough for everyone. In fact, movie theaters are the center point for a lot of the problems we are currently seeing in the movie industry because they can’t seem to draw in audiences right now. In order to deal with this fact, almost all movies that were meant to release this year were pushed out of this year’s line-up by the movie studios producing them. Those that haven’t been are either hopeful that people will change their minds suddenly and decide to go to the movies during a pandemic, or they are giving them digital releases. Whether it be their own streaming service or a service they have a contract with, studios are definitely thinking about digital releases.
One of the studios that has really been thinking about how to release their films as of late has been Warner Bros. who are still kind of dealing with the failure of ‘Tenet’s’ release. While the movie was reviewed pretty well, people just haven’t been willing to put their own health at risk to go and see the movie. As such, they are very willing to put a lot of their focus in HBO Max, their premiere streaming service. To further elaborate on this new focus they released pretty much all of their available content onto the service just like Disney did with Disney+. In order to draw even more attention to the service, they even made the announcement that the Snyder Cut for Justice League would be hitting the service some time in early 2021.
The Snyder Cut for ‘Justice League‘ is the director’s cut that fans have been waiting for since the release of the theatrical version of the film back in 2017. We knew immediately that this version would be more than the original version of the film ever was, especially after we found out that this special re-release was given a $70 million budget to work with. This made fans all the more excited for this upcoming release, but there is plenty more to be excited for, especially since the movie is actually going to be a four-part series shown in one hour increments on the service. On top of this, Snyder recently revealed that he is doing reshoots with a lot of the character in the film in order to fit more perfectly into the story he wants to tell. Certainly, this may just end up being the movie that we originally wanted back in 2017, and now we just need to wait a few more months for it.

There are a ton of movies that are currently awaiting to have their releases finalized nowadays due to the pandemic we are all suffering through. The pandemic has caused countless issues to arise after it started back in March of this year and it is only going to continue as time goes on. The biggest issues that are arising for just about everyone are being centered around the fact that businesses are trying their best to reopen in a way that goes along with the new health and safety guidelines that are in place. With those new rules in place, many businesses began the arduous process of making themselves follow in accordance with the new guidelines so that people could once again visit their places. This is all people have wanted since the pandemic first began and it is now becoming more and more of a reality.
Of course, now that people are mostly free to go back to the places they used to frequent before the pandemic, it doesn’t mean it is something that is easy to do. The new guidelines create strict rules for both owners and occupants and also limit the number of occupants that can go into a business. This has become a huge issue for businesses that rely very heavily on just bringing in more and more people to generate their revenue. Unfortunately this is not something that can be rectified with new rules and regulations being put in place and some businesses are having a hard time adapting to all of this. This is the primary issue which is currently being faced by the movie theater industry, and by extension, the movie industry as a whole.
Movie theaters have been trying to assess their damage properly ever since the pandemic began by trying to see just how long they would end up being shut down for. Unfortunately for them, this ended up being far longer than they thought it would be because individual states had different rules in place in regards to public businesses reopening. Theaters often found their places near the bottom of the list for businesses which were allowed to open up their doors yet again. On top of this, there were the many issues involving studios where the studios themselves were not sure of when they should release their films. On top of this, the new guidelines they had to follow were anything but easy to get on top of and put into place.
Like every other business that wanted to once again open their doors to the public, movie theaters had no choice but to follow the instructions given to them by the government. These guidelines did the aforementioned things like limiting occupancy and making sure that people were following the new social distancing guidelines. On top of this, health and safety guidelines that made sure that public places remained clean also had a hand in making things difficult as surfaces were meant to be cleaned on a much more regular basis. With all of this in mind, is it really any surprise that it took so long for theaters to finally reopen their doors to the public?
The ultimate decision to reopen their doors to the public came out near the end of July as theater companies decided they didn’t care if they didn’t have any films to immediately show to the public. With that announcement, movie studios decided to also go along with this initiative and we finally started getting true release dates for theaters. The biggest movie that was going to be released that ended up on everyone’s mind ended up being the movie ‘Tenet.’ Despite its relatively strong opening weekends in both the international and domestic markets, it started failing at the box office after the third week. This didn’t exactly inspire confidence in movie studios and it heavily affected how the movie industry will be moving forward.
After ‘Tenet’ failed to do what people were hoping for by bringing business back to theaters, studios became very wary of when they wanted to release their films. This resulted in the mass exodus of films from this year’s line-up into some time next year, with many ending up being pushed into late next year. The problem is that the general public are rightfully wary of returning to public places like theaters where they may end up getting sick. This has led to many people deciding against going out to theaters which led to the horrific decline that theaters are now stuck in. Regal cinemas even went and took the next step by shutting down until further notice while the pandemic is going on in order to try and save money wherever possible.
Despite everything that is going on with movie theaters in general at the moment, studios are still doing their best to work on future films. Even if there are a lot of movies that are waiting to be released, there are a lot of movies that are ready to be worked on so that when the pandemic ends, studios don’t fall behind. Also, just because theaters shut down doesn’t mean that studios have no way of movie forward with their films. In fact, they just need to focus more on how they want to release them by deciding which movies they want to release on what platform. This is what Disney is actually doing now as they have decided to take a much stronger stance on their streaming service. As streaming has exploded since people have been stuck at home for so long, it is no surprise that they would end up doing this.
Despite the fact that Disney has made the decision to focus more on streaming, they will not at all be abandoning their movie theater releases. In fact, they have made it pretty apparent at this point that they instead just decided that movies that they believe won’t do as well in theaters will instead go over to their streaming service. This is pretty much what everyone expected to happen though and they are still saving their bigger releases for whenever they can possibly put them into theaters. Thus, just like every other studio, they have a lot to do moving forward as they are also continuing to create new content. While they have been the most vocal about their plans, there are certainly other companies which will try to do the same thing moving forward.
One of the biggest movie studios out there is the Warner Bros. studio and they have had a lot on their minds recently with this pandemic. In fact, they are the ones suffering from the fact that ‘Tenet’ is not doing so well since it was produced through their studio. They need to make a fortune on the movie just to try and break even and it hasn’t been easy with no one wanting to go out to theaters to put their health at risk. That being said, like Disney, they have their own streaming service which they can act through while simultaneously working on new projects. After all, while Disney has had more success with the MCU, Warner has the DCEU that they are still working on. While the DCEU may not be as popular, it has made plenty of money for the studio thus far and it will continue to do so with their upcoming films.
The DC Extended Universe, or DCEU, may not have the complexity or the same level of fame that the MCU has, but it is easily one of Warner’s strongest set of properties. It has easily become a polarizing topic over the years as each film belonging in the franchise has released and with those releases, we saw many films hit the wall. Despite hitting the proverbial wall, many movies in the DCEU have brought Warner a lot of money and therefore, many more films are to follow in the future. Hence the reason so many DCEU films are either being worked on, or there are plans in the works to have them be worked on in the near future. The one that is now on everyone’s minds is the upcoming standalone film ‘The Batman.’
‘The Batman’ sees Robert Pattinson taking on the role of a young, yet fierce iteration of the caped crusader while he is in his early years of wearing the cowl. The movie was among many others that were forced to postpone their productions due to the start of the pandemic and they recently resumed filming back in September after months of waiting. No one know what to expect out of the film, but after DC FanDome, we now know that this movie will be one that we should all look forward to seeing. The trailer for the film had fans going from skeptical to completely on board after it dropped and people were incredibly excited to find out we would get to see this film next year. Unfortunately, soon after, the movie had its release date pushed back to early 2022.
Between the trailer and the high praise that people working on the film have had for it, it is no surprise that people are clamoring to want to go and see the movie. When it resumed filming, information was given that the movie was a portion of the way done with filming before the production began again. However, it is more than likely that the movie will have reshoots done in order to make sure that everything is perfect by the time of release. That being said, the movie is apparently already shaping up to be something quite interesting since they are going to be working on it for some time still. Word has come out that the movie will be seeing a finished production date some time in early 2021 which makes it very much possible for more to happen with the film’s post-production.
Warner Bros. are not strangers to working heavily on films during post-production, but unlike other films, this might be warranted. From what fans have seen already, they will be expecting nothing but the best from this movie. So it is not going to far to say that the best way of making sure that this film ends up being the best version of itself is to have as much time as possible to prepare it. It is for this reason that the movie is apparently going to wrap filming some time in February, wherein they will have approximately 13 months to work on post-production before the film releases. While this pandemic has most certainly changed the time-frames in a disadvantageous way, there is no doubt that they will make use of that time to try and make the movie great.

For years, there have been countless franchises that have populated the market when it comes to movies and other forms of media. Without these franchises, there would not be quite as many merchandising opportunities for companies as there are now. Franchises give companies the ability to do something more with an intellectual property than just putting that one form of media out there and hoping it does well. Of course companies can merchandize for films that stand on their own, but it is better if they were to build up some kind of base for that thing first. This is the primary point where franchises really start to come in handy because they build this base.
The base structure for merchandising primarily comes from the fact that whatever it is being ripped from has some sort of huge fan base. Of course, individual movies can have massive fan bases, but most of the time, franchises get the largest and most devoted fan bases. A franchise is not just limited to media, but that is where it is primarily found and recognized as one since that is where the term really comes into play. A movie franchise can go and turn an entire studio on its head if it is done correctly and everything they do goes well with the audience. This is how we have ended up with so many well known franchises over the years and we will no doubt be getting even more in the future.
Some of the most well-known franchises out there are related to the science-fiction medium which is how we ended up with Star Wars and the MCU standing at the top. Star Wars was obviously the first well-established franchise, but it was the start of something no one knew there was even a market for. It is easily one of the longest running franchises in the movie medium and it has grown large enough to be a part of everything from movies, to books, to toys, and even video games over the years. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that this franchise will continue to encapsulate so many peoples’ lives for countless years to come. Stemming from this franchise, and already mentioned, are the toys and games which are a part of the merchandising process. These are an excellent tell of how far the franchise as a whole has managed to make it thus far.
Even though it is definitely not as old as the Star Wars franchise, the MCU is still over 10 years old and now holds a firm place as perhaps the biggest franchise there is. It was a bit easier for them to establish this franchise due to the amount of source material already on hand from the over 80 years before the first MCU film released. However, Marvel studios breathed an incredible breath of fresh air into their films, easily making them fan builder films. This eventually culminated in them being able to broaden their horizons due to being owned by Disney and countless other things came out of the franchise. Just like Star Wars, this included the movies, books, TV shows, toys, and video games and it is still so far from being over.
Not every singe franchise has the same opportunities as these franchises do and instead have to rely almost entirely on the films. Like I said, there are plenty of stand-alone films that have merchandise to help hold them up, but some films mostly just end up relying on themselves. There is almost no better example of this than in the ‘Fast and Furious‘ franchise and there are not many movies that reach the same heights other than the aforementioned franchises. This action franchise almost always tries to outdo every previous film in its line-up, with the action sequences getting more and more wild as each film comes up. Thus we are now heading towards the release of ‘Fast and Furious 9’ which was supposed to have released already, but was unfortunately delayed.
Due to the pandemic, ‘Fast and Furious 9’ was unfortunately pushed back into 2021 despite having a release date originally set in May of this year. This doesn’t have much of an affect on this action movie juggernaut of a franchise though as plans were immediately made to put time to good use as they are planning the last of their mainline films. The ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise will come to an end with a two-part movie which will be told over the course of both the 10th and 11th movies. Both installments will be directed by Justin Lin and we are sure to see them play out over the next couple of years depending on how things go with this pandemic. That aside, this is a popular franchise, so they have no reason to stop making money. So there is no doubt that they will try to keep this franchise alive by making spin-offs.
