Dolittle is a literary icon that has spanned the lengths of entire generations and is making his return to the big screen. This time, the character is being portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., and cast alongside him is an ensemble cast including Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, Harry Collett, Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, John Cena, Kumail Nanjiani, Octavia Spencer, Tom Holland, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez, Marion Cotillard, Jim Broadbent, Jessie Buckley, Frances de la Tour, Carmel Laniado, Jason Mantzoukas, Craig Robinson, and Kasia Smutniak. The film was directed by Academy Award winner Stephen Gaghan who was also responsible for Syriana and Traffic. On top of that it is produced by Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum under their Roth/Kirschenbaum Films (Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent) and Susan Downey (Sherlock Holmes franchise, The Judge) for Team Downey. Robert Downey Jr. is also executively producing the movie.
With an ensemble cast and the amount of backing the movie has, it seems people are in for a well created film. As for the film itself, it is a reimagining of the classic tale of the man who can speak to animals. The film takes place in Queen Victoria’s England and sees the titular doctor and veterinarian having to find a cure for the young queen who has fallen ill. He must find a cure by searching for a mystical island, running into old adversaries and wonderous new animals. On his journey, he is joined by an apprentice and a coterie of animal friends.

Other than the new film, we have a few Doctor Dolittle titles that already exist, the Eddie Murphy series and the original 1967 film of the same name. While the new film goes back to a previous time period like the original film, it is set up to stand out as an entirely different film. The movie will consist of characters with wildly different personalities. Therefore we can probably expect an interesting journey to result from this adventure-fantasy film. If you are looking forward to the film, it will be out in theaters on Friday January 17, 2020.
Bad Boys for Life sees Mike Lowry, played by Will Smith, and Marcus Burnett, played by Martin Lawrence, returning for one last ride. The movie is being directed by Belgian movie and television directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. It was written by Peter Craig, known for The Town and Hunger Game: Mockingjay, and Joe Carnahan, known for Narc, Smokin’ Aces and A-Team. The film is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Will Smith, and Doug Belgrade. Smith and Lawrence are also cast alongside Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, Paola Nunez, Kate Del Castillo, Nicky Jam, and Joe Pantoliano.
Bad Boys for Life sees the highly- anticipated end of the Bad Boys saga that began 25 years ago. The premise of this film is that the old-school bad boys, as well as the newly formed elite AMMO team, going up against a drug cartel. The cartel, Armando Armas, is headed by a vicious leader that controls the drug trade in Miami. This film carries on the tradition of being a buddy-cop comedy with serious action mixed into it. With that, fans of the original films are set to be excited for the film.
The movie is considered to be an action/comedy/crime movie and will have the same R rating that the previous two films had. While it may not be the longest film in the saga, it stills stretches to the 2 hour mark. This makes it just a few minutes longer than the original film. With that time, the directors can weave together a story that people love as much as the first film. For those who want to see the movie, it releases to theaters January 17, 2020.
Inherit the Viper is a crime-thriller featuring Josh Hartnett (Kip Conley), Margarita Levieva (Josie Conley), Owen Teague (Boots Conley), Valorie Curry (Eve), Chandler Riggs (Cooper), Brad William Henke (Ted Wallace), Tara Buck (Eliza Wallace), with Dash Mihok (Sheriff Knox), and Bruce Dern (Clay Carter). The film is directed by Anthony Jerjen, and will be the second film he has ever directed. It is written by Andrew Crabtree who worked on the shorts, ‘A Little Bit Crooked’ and ‘Companion.’ The premise of the film is two siblings deal opioids in order to survive. However, brother Kip, played by Hartnett, wants to get out of the family legacy business.
The main characters, and their younger brother, must find a way to escape the peril that follows them. The result of which all leads to a shattering conclusion. The movie promises to be a searing crime-thriller that tests the bonds of family. Their is much violence and betrayal to be had throughout the course of the film. With an R rating, it should have a little bit more leeway to make the film deliver on it’s promises. Inherit the Viper is set to premiere in select theaters on January 10, 2020.

This film review for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will discuss how the film creates a pretty decent send-off for the main story franchise. First of all, even though it shouldn’t have to be said, massive spoilers ahead. That being said I can move forward with this review. To be fair to some degree, I went into the film with low expectations and enjoyed it a lot. Admittedly, I also didn’t really like “The Last Jedi,” which shaped my opinion going into the film. With this in mind, I came out of the movie theater having enjoyed what I watched. Seriously, if you don’t want spoilers, duck out now.
First off, before spoilers, I have to say that the actors did an excellent job with their performances. The actors, especially the main characters Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo, played by Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver respectively. All of the remaining characters play off them and one another very well. Ian McDiarmid makes an incredible return as Palpatine/ Darth Sidious and plays the part as well as he did originally. I thought that the return would be ham-fisted but it stayed entertaining throughout with him as the main villain.
Throughout the film they continually answered questions people had been asking. Rey’s parentage ending up with her being Palpatine’s grand-daughter made me like “The Last Jedi” a bit more. Not just that, but other things like who Snoke really was in the other two films. Palpatine was revealed as the true villain behind all that transpired in the new trilogy. I understand that this isn’t an amazing way to end it, but it made sense. Following the end of Return of the Jedi, we always wondered whether or not that was truly Palpatine’s end, and we got our answer.
There are a few call-backs to the original trilogy, such as a return to the Death Star and a land speeder chase reminiscent of the Endor chase. Not only that, but the send-offs for all of the characters is satisfying. In my opinion, Kylo using his own life to save Rey’s seems fitting for a redemption of the character. Also, the death of Carrie Fisher made us all wonder what they would do with Leia, and her death in the movie makes perfect sense. You can feel the impact of her death both on and off of the screen. Beyond that, the rest of the original trio have proper send-offs as well that impact the story and the audience.
The End of Nostalgia
Overall, with the return of Luke, played by Mark Hamill, as a force ghost, and Han Solo, played by Harrison Ford, as a memory work well within the story. They push the plot forward in a productive way that creates a dramatic and incredible ending to the story. That being said, I am by no means saying the film is perfect. I felt as though a lot of things like that were just put in for nostalgia and I can understand that, but I just don’t like things like that. I know that the new trilogy is polarizing, but this movie, to me, is a good send-off to it.

The epic war film 1917 is a film that sees World War I in a way many people have not. The director, writer, and producer of the movie is Sam Mendes, Oscar®-winning director of Skyfall, Spectre and American Beauty. 1917 tells the story of two young British soldiers at the height of the war, Lance Corporal Schofield played by George MacKay and Lance Corporal Blake played by Dean-Charles Chapman as they are given a seemingly impossible task. The film also stars Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden, Claire Duburcq, Colin Firth, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Mendes wanted to create an immersive cinematic experience for movie-goers. Thus, a movie that tells an epic war story is created for people to watch.
1917 sees two soldiers having to cross enemy territory in order to try and save the lives of 1600 soldiers. Amongst the soldiers they are trying to save is Lance Corporal Blake’s brother. The movie shows The Great War at the peak of the fighting, showing battlefield combat, as well as trench warfare. Also, we’ll get to witness the traversal of No-Man’s Land, the place that was between the trenches of rivaling forces. Mendes’ grandfather was a messenger during his time in WW I, and this inspired Mendes to make the movie.
This movie is meant to be a promising war movie that can give us an immersive experience. Director Sam Mendes took his grandfather’s stories into account when making the film, so we can hope it is a realistic film. With Mendes’ other films in mind, this film has potential and starts the year off strong. The film releases in theaters everywhere on Friday January 10, 2020.
The Grudge (2020) is a new movie based off of the original “Ju-On: The Grudge” film starring Andrea Riseborough, Demián Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin with Lin Shaye and Jacki Weaver.. This version of the film is directed and written by Nicolas Pesce and was also written by Jeff Buhler. The Grudge is produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Taka Ichise and is executive produced by Nathan Kahane, Erin Westerman, Brady Fujikawa, Andrew Pfeffer, Roy Lee, Doug Davison, John Powers Middleton and Schuyler Weiss. This movie marks the return of the Grudge franchise 15 years after it’s original release. For the first time ever, unlike the original, the film takes place on American soil, in the small town of Cross River.
This film will be director Nicolas Pesce’s third film since his directorial debut in 2016. As a long time lover of the original “The Grudge,” he was chosen as the director for the movie after the debut of his first film, “The Eyes of My Mother.” Producer Sam Raimi has said that he is happy with the film’s R-rating, saying that it allows the director to create a truly terrifying experience. By being able to show true harm and blood on screen, he feels that it is the perfect way for the director to make people scared.
This movie marks the return of the terror that many people fell in love with, but the film isn’t just a remake of the original of the same name. It is, in actuality, a continuation of the last film, so those who are fans of the original can simply see the next chapter. For everyone else, it is an R-rated horror movie that people can watch and become terrified by. For those who want to experience this chapter of the Grudge universe, the film releases in all theaters on January 3, 2020.
