Starring Blake Lively, The Rhythm Section sees a woman’s quest for vengeance and her journey into a seedy underworld. This movie shows what the lengths someone may go to for revenge. The film sees a woman going into a very dark complex world to find revenge for her family. Her family was killed in a plane crash and she discovers that it was not an accident. This is all to find her own redemption and find a way to move on past everything.

Jude Law and Blake Lively in The Rhythm Section

The Rhythm Section is based off of the novel of the same name by Mark Burnell. It is being directed by Reed Morano, the director of the much loved Handmaid’s Tale. Also, it is being produced by the producers of the James Bond series of films Michael G. Wilson, p.g.a. and Barbara Broccoli, p.g.a. Starring alongside Blake Lively is Jude Law, (Fantastic Beasts and Sherlock Holmes) and Sterling K. Brown (Black Panther and Hotel Artemis). It has potential to be an interesting film and everyone will have the chance to see if it is on January 31, 2020.

The Morbius trailer has recently dropped and shows us the origins of titular biochemist Michael Morbius, played by Jared Leto. For those who do not know, Morbius is a vampire in the marvel universe who clashes with Spider-Man. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease. This premise makes us hopeful that the movie will turn out as well as other Marvel films.

Sony’s Teaser Trailer for Morbius

The film is being directed by Daniel Espinosa, the director behind films like Safe House and Life(2017). The story was written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless who wrote the stories for Dracula Untold, The Last Witch Hunter, and Gods of Egypt. This might give pause for some people considering how poorly critics rated those films, but I have hope for it. We can’t judge a movie until we’ve seen it, and a Marvel film usually always ends up coming out alright in the end. Morbius seems like it will be an interesting movie that could expand even more upon Sony’s Marvel Universe.

With this film, we have the set up to a fantastic series of movies, if done correctly. Sony’s Marvel Universe is expanding it’s repertoire in order to build a catalog of interesting, yet classic villains. The villains, or really anti-heroes, are people who are classic Spidey villains, such as Venom and now Morbius. It may just be the beginning of this universe, but could also be very promising. Hopefully it all ends up working out in the end, and we can see the direction this universe is going in when the film releases in theaters on July 31, 2020.

Gretel & Hansel tells the dark story of a sister and her brother going into a dark forest and finding nothing but evil. Gretel and Hansel is based off the storybook of almost the same name, Hansel & Gretel. The movie is directed by Osgood “Oz” Perkins, the director of The Blackcoat’s Daughter and I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. The movie stars Sophia Lillis (It, HBO’s Sharp Objects), newcomer Sammy Leakey, Alice Krige (Amazon’s Carnival Row), Jessica De Gouw (WGN’s Underground, The CW’s Arrow) and Charles Babalola (The Legend of Tarzan). Written by Rob Hayes and produced by Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Sinister, Upgrade) and Fred Berger (La La Land, Destroyer), the movie promises to be absolutely terrifying.

Sophia Lillis as Titular Gretel

The premise of the film closely follows the story in the original book. In a fairytale countryside a young girl takes her brother into the woods to find food and work. What they find in the woods, however, is nothing but a horrifying experience. The siblings find nothing in the woods but a witch who seems kind and feeds them, but with terrible ulterior motives. The movie will more than likely show the lengths the siblings will have to go through to survive.

Gretel & Hansel will bring terror back from the original story seeing that people understand the dire situation in the film. From the discovery of the witch’s abode to their daring escape. These things were all in the original story, and hopefully will be seen properly on the screen. This movie is one that will either be very interesting or disappointing. Everyone can find out exactly which one it will be when the movie releases nationwide on January 31, 2020.

From director Todd Robinson comes a film that tells the true story of William Pitsenbarger. William Pitsenbarger was rewarded posthumously for his rescue efforts with a Medal of Honor. The movie tells the story of the fight for him to receive it in the first place. The movie stars Jeremy Irvine as William himself, William Hurt as his comrade in arms, Christopher Plummer as his father, Sebastian Stan as Investigator Scott Huffman, and also starring in the film is Samuel L. Jackson and Ed Harris. People producing the film are Timothy Scott Bogart, Mark Damon, Nicholas Cafritz, Robert Reed Peterson, Shaun Sanghani, Michael Bassick, Adi Cohen, and Lauren Selig. Those who are executive producing the movie are Clay Pecorin, Russell Geyser, Cesare Fazari, Jessica Martins, Wilson da Silva, Habib H. Paracha, Tamara Birkemoe, Jenna Sanz-Agero, and Sidney Sherman.

The Last Full Measure seeks to show audiences the heroics of William Pitsenbarger who saved the lives of over sixty men during one of the hardest battles of the Vietnam War. William was an Air Force medic who eventually stayed behind during the fight. He did so in order to save and defend the lives of his fellow soldiers. Eventually, his decision resulted in him having to make the ultimate sacrifice. It also depicts the struggle that his comrade and father had to go through 20 years later in order to get him the Medal of Honor he deserved.

The Real William H. Pitsenbarger

The movie seeks to highlight just how heroic his efforts were and how he managed to save the lives of so many soldiers. Also, it highlights the difficulty in his receiving the Medal of Honor well after his death on the battlefield. William served in the military from 1962 until his death in South Vietnam in 1966. Initially awarded posthumously the Air Force Cross, it would, in the end, be upgraded to the Medal of Honor for going above and beyond the call of duty on the battlefield. The Last Full Measure will officially release in theaters on January 24, 2020.

The Gentlemen sees a host of colorful characters trying to steal an American expat’s marijuana business out from under him after he decides he wants out. The film is set in the city of London and primarily stars Matthew McConaughey. Also starring in the film is Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong, with Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant. Directing the film is master filmmaker Guy Ritchie making his return to the genre. Ritchie is responsible for films such as Sherlock Holmes, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and Snatch. Guy Ritchie also did the screenplay for the film and co-wrote the film with Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies.

Ritchie, McConaughey , and Hunnam

While the title of the film is Gentlemen, Ritchie admits that for the characters, it is simply an aspiration. The characters in the film are getting to the age that they want the finer things in life. Ritchie says that this is the primary reason for everything they do in the movie. He also made the film with the difference in American and English social classes in mind. Ritchie created characters that contrast the characters usually played by the actors. The film is described as having an American main character in order to create an interesting take on British gangster films.

The Gentlemen is about a man who simply wants to get out of the drug business and live a life with his family. Obviously this is bound to not go well, and this sets up the main conflict of the film. Mickey, the main character has to navigate a field of dangerous individuals who want to take his business from him without paying for it. On top of being a gangster film, the movie is a love story between Mickey and his wife who is his backbone and the person who helps him make the best business decisions. Rosalind, his wife, is set to be an incredible female lead and an incredible independent character. The movie itself is set to be a great gangster film with a lot of potential. The Gentlemen is set to release in an official capacity on January 24, 2020.

1. Inception

Inception kicks off this list of favorite films for good reason. There are a lot of films that come up with some sort of convoluted plot that doesn’t pay off. This film is definitely not one of those movies. While the plot may be a bit complex, it is a plot that does actually make sense. If you don’t understand the movie, that would make sense, but if you watch it a couple times, you’ll understand it. It’s a film with a fantastic science fiction plot that I haven’t seen before. If for some reason you haven’t seen the film, then you must go and watch it because it is a fantastic film full of mind-altering plot lines.

The World of Inception

2. The Avengers

The Avengers feels almost obligatory for this list, and is only one of two MCU films on this list. The reason for which is that it was, in my opinion the film that truly brought the MCU together for the first time. This gives it status as one of the best films of the decade. It’s a film that shaped the way forward for the films to come and gave us a hint of a massive story arc. Also, it is just a good super hero movie that anybody could enjoy watching. Without a doubt, this is a film that will carry through the next decade as well, and that just makes this film even more deserving of being on the list.

The Original Avengers Assemble

3. The Avengers: Endgame

This list would be incomplete without The Avengers: Endgame which helped round out the decade. Endgame finishes up the original story arc that had officially began with the original Avengers film. This movie was many years in the making and was easily the most anticipated MCU film of all time. It became the highest grossing film of all time and without a doubt one of the best films made. The culmination of years of effort comes together in this movie and because of that it is on my list.

All Avengers Assemble

4. Mad Max: Fury Road

Mad Max: Fury Road is a very stylish film that is just plain wonderful to watch. It is not just a film showing Mad Max’s exploits, it is a film with an incredible female lead. The movie just plain keeps people entertained all the way through. On top of the visuals being fantastic, the plot of the film is wildly entertaining. Seeing Max interact with Furiosa and getting caught up in whatever trouble he’s found himself in. While the production of the film was supposedly very difficult, the film itself ended up as a masterpiece in cinema.

Max and Furiosa

5. Interstellar

Interstellar I can see being a polarizing film due to a few different things. For one, the film is full of scientific inaccuracies and discrepancies in plot. However, there were also a lot of physics theories that were correct as well. On top of this, the movie is incredibly beautiful to watch and can keep your eyes on the screen. The plot gets a little out there at some points, but other points that make it feel like an existential crisis make it entertaining. I have a love for this film because it shows just how big the universe is, and it is on this list just for that.

Interstellar’s Massive Black Hole

6. The Book of Eli

The Book of Eli stands on its own legs because it is an incredible post-apocalypse film. We get to view the main character just trying his best to survive the harsh environment. He ends up being caught up in a power struggle even though he tries to avoid trouble. The movie is a well done film showing the struggles of a world that’s been burned. Without a doubt, it is a film that people should watch for an interesting story, and that is why it is on the list.

Eli On His Journey

7. Cloud Atlas

Cloud Atlas deserves to be called an epic when everything is said and done. The movie is by no means a perfect film, however, it is full of interesting stories. This movie is not told in chronological order and the plot can be a little hard to follow, but if you are able to separate them in your mind, then you can see how interesting they are. The movie spans nearly 3 hours in length, which isn’t all that special since movies usually push over the 2 hour mark nowadays. That doesn’t change the fact that the movie is an epic, as it has stories that span generations and they vary wildly. One of the most interesting things is the use of actors playing different roles. It is an underrated movie people should see at least once.

Incredible Cloud Atlas Set Piece

8. Despicable Me

Despicable Me is one of the two animated films on this list for a reason. At the time of its release and even now, the movie is an animated hit. It gets old, having seen it so many times, but it most certainly remains an incredible film. After all, when the movie released, it was loved by both adults and children alike. Also, not many others films can simply release and be an instant hit worthy of a franchise. While the two following films may not have been as good as the first, it doesn’t change the fact that the film did an incredibly well.

Despicable Me’s Gru and His Girls

9. How to Train Your Dragon

How to Train Your Dragon deserves its place on this list because as an animated film, it is incredibly well made. Like Despicable Me, it started a franchise and was very well received. While I think the second film in the trilogy was the best of the movies, the first one is the one that deserves to be on the list. The reason for which is that without it, we wouldn’t even have the second one (obviously), but it started it all and deserves the credit for doing so. The movie holds up well even years after release and it tells a very interesting story that anyone, adult or child, would like to watch. It is easily one of my favorite animated films of all time and is certainly my favorite animated trilogy.

Hiccup and Toothless Meet

10. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is here primarily because it is an absolutely incredible film to watch. I say that as someone who appreciates small details in movies that make it more entertaining or give it more personality. Director Edgar Wright is a master when it comes to things like that in his films. Almost every single scene has a detail in it that is pertinent to the story. There are no filler sets and no details are pointless in the movie. I will also admit that the video game aspect of the film makes it even more enjoyable as someone who loves games. If anyone else watches the film, they can be on the lookout for those details at all times and it really doesn’t distract from the movie. This most certainly makes it a reason for it to be on this list.
